The City of Rubies, it was just as stunning as the other great cities which dotted the little chain of islands. However, there was always a certain aura about the red streets, one that seems to soak in to every person who made the strange place their home. Not a city for the faint of heart, one always had to be on their toes and expect anything and everything... Of course, not everyone was quite so worried
"Food! Good Foods! I have food if yous haz monies for me!"
Calling from the side of one of the streets was a large, pudgy troll who mad managed to set up a small table out of drift wood as well as a stump to sit on as e waited for customers. While Rum didn't like flaunting his un-trollish cooking skills like this, he was out of coins and needed a few to buy his way off the Red Island. He had spent his last few coins on this neat little statue of a red bird which now sat in his pack, what he had left wouldn't even be half the amount that he needed. So here he was, trying to sell a few dishes that he cooked himself and then set to rest on the table in front of him.
The first row of his wares were a few soups that used large clam shells for bowls, these were made either entirely out of plants or with a few bits of meat and spices mixed in. Behind that were a few more shells that acted as plates, holding a variety of small cooked dishes from birds to fish or even a few crabs that were boiled. Each was covered in it's own spice, some had garlic while others just a sprinkling of salt. The troll did the best he could with what little he had on hand at the time. He was having a rather hard time selling anything, as most folks would not expect any food bought from a troll to taste even remotely good. Rum had a feeling that he was going to be stuck here for a while, at least until he could manage to buy himself a ride off the rock and head to a slightly friendlier island.
But he kept his spirits up as he called out in his deep voice and mangled words, hoping that someone would be brave enough to hand him a little coin for his hard work. The troll was not the sort to give up so easily and the idea of being stuck in this unnerving city was not one that he enjoyed. For now Rum could only count the days until he was able to leave, though he hoped that he would enjoy his remaining time spent here, as unlikely as that hope was... Rum just happened to be a glass-half-full kind of troll and thought the best of any being he met, which was perhaps not the best business platform.

Shas was bored, hungry and cold, yes cold. In the busy city crowed with people, in summer and in her wolf form Shas was cold! Yes a snow white wolf was cold in the crowded city on market day. Sighing in her jaws was a bag, it contained many things including a purse.
"Food! Good Foods! I have food if yous haz monies for me!" at the words her stomach growled and Shas stopped, ears twitching at all the sounds trying to pick up any more from from the male that had spoken those words. A scent rather strange in the city, it was odd for a male to be out in the streets, yes they were welcome to wander the streets many didn't. Infact there weren't many males here.
Then the scent of food drifted to her, saliva dripped to the floor and Shas growled, and something off to her right caught her attention. Padding over to a dark corner cherrful and frightened yips sounded. Puppies. What were puppies doing here? They looked terrible, Shas dropped the bag and using her powerful jaws and one front paw opened the pull string sack. Growling in a softer tone she encouraged the puppies into the sack, picking the smaller ones up in her jaws and placing them inside. Oh how much fun they were going to have playing with her clothing.
Happy that all the pups were in the sack Shas picked it up again in her jaws, the puppies added alot of weight to the sack, and made her task of getting to that makeshift stall so much harder. Why did she have to have a weak spot for puppies when in this form?
Claws clacked as she weaved through the crowd to see the troll sitting at his stall. Shas was just large enough that her shoulders were level with the stall, blue and red eyes looked at the dishes there and then she lowered her head, to take a few steps so she was at the side of the stall, so she wasn't putting the unseen puppies in danger of being stepped on.
Laying down Shas opened the only slightly sealed sack, by placing one paw and her muzzle inside and lifting her muzzle. The puppies all poked thier heads out and yipped. Shas pulled a purse out from the bag and held it in her jaws for the troll to take, hoping he would realise that she was a Lycanthorpe and wanted some of the food. As if to help her point her stomache growled.
Today she really wasn't living up to her name sake. Oh well.
__________ OOC: Sorry for the randomness, i seem obsessed with Puppies lately!

The day seemed to just be grinding on, refusing to speed itself up and offer a little help. But then again, time could be a very fickle thing.
Rum leaned back on the stump he was using as a chair, letting his mind wander a little as his gaze began to drift up to the skies above the troll. He was starting to think that maybe this was a bust and that he should try another location, perhaps he would get better business there. It didn't help things that he just noticed that most beings on the street were female, more then out numbering the few males he had seen walking by. Lowering his eyes back to the streets to confirm this, Rum was surprised to see that some sort of dog was padding up to his little table. At least at first he thought it was a dog, but he recognized the more wild traits on it right away, having spent a great deal of his life in one woods or another, Rum could at least tell a wolf from a normal dog if he had to. The troll began to lean forwards a little, squinting his bright blue eyes. There was something different about this wolf, as it drew closer he saw that it was carrying a bag of some sort along with a few other bits that he would think belonged to a human or some other race.
Rum could only watch as the wolf stopped in front of his table, acting far too calm and collected to be just another animal. The troll leaned just a little closer, taking a loud sniff to help confirm what he already suspected. He could tell that the wolf was female as well as her scent being just a little too strange to be that of a normal wolf. Finally he had what he needed to understand that he was sitting in front of a werewolf, one of those creatures who could change their form at will. She was far from the first werewolf that Rum ever saw, but Rum always found it hard to tell them apart from other wolves or even your average human.
As Rum studied the female, he saw just how tired and hungry she was. The troll swore he felt his heart ache when he saw the wolf struggled with the purse stuck inside her sack. As she was holding it out to the troll, his sharp ears could hear little yips and yaps coming from the sack. Rum scrunched his face face up and ground his teeth as he watched the wolf hold up the purse to him, he knew she had to be very desperate to come to a troll for food instead of hunting on her own. Rum could feel something tugging at his eyes as he slowly reached out with an open palm to gently push the purse away. He then formed a fist with his hand, extending a sausage sized thumb which he jabbed into his own chest.
"I's Rum Swumpwaters. I no makes staving wuff ladie-mudders and deir pups pay for foods."
He didn't need to introduce himself to them, but they looked like they were in trouble and might be needing a friend. Rum of course could only go by what he saw and what was in front of him was a tired female werewolf who was either unable or unwilling to transform, staved crazy enough to come to a troll for food with a bag of what Rum could only assume were her pups.
Slowly the large troll stood up, regaining his full towering height before rolling his shoulders back to uncramp his joints, which by now felt a bit stiff from sitting down for a few hours. Rum then leaned over the table, using his long arms to pull several dishes down to the ground for the wolf to eat, including a shell full of beef stew for the pups in case they were hungry as well. With his good deed done, the troll sat back down on his stump and shot the wolf a warm smile, hoping that she could save her coins for something like a warm place for her and the puppies to stay in and not some overpriced food that a street peddler like him might try and pawn off on the poor mother.

The Troll had lent forward to peer at her, those blue eyes matched those that the puppies had, they gave a softness to the large Troll, yes she liked most races... Vampire were pushing the boundries as were Gnolls, but Trolls were ok.
Yes very un Werewolf like of her, her name didn't match her personality, if anything it matched her deceased Sister more than her own. Mentally sighing Shas done what she needed to and know she lay there, her head raised with a full purse held out to the Troll.
She had been studied by the troll, it didn't suprise nor did it affect her in anyway, she was far from perfect but didn't care, all she wanted was some food and a way off this boring Island. Oh great now the troll felt sorry for her. At least she would eat... but he wouldn't take her money.
He pushed the purse away and Shas looked up at him with very human emotions in her eyes, she wanted to give him the money, it was how things were done and honestly she could afford tit, hell she could have bought the Empresses castle if she wanted and still have change. So paying for a few bowls of food was no problem.
He closed his hand into a fist and jabbed a thumb at his chest, Shas lowered her head to her paws and watched the grey puppies crawl from the sack, to untrained eyes they may have looked like wolf pups. They yipped and pounced on Shas.
Great. Just call me foster mum why don't ya!
Huffing Shas licked one of the pups near her head and looked to the troll asking with her eyes if he wanted one... or all of them! Why was she asking with her eyes? Because her comman tounge was more than a little rusty in this form. Even the troll would have a problem understanding long sentances.
He stood and the pups whimpered and shrank against the warm shaggy fur of Shas, that did not help prove that these pups weren't hers! Either way food was placed down infront of them by the troll and a warm smile was offered. Shas allowed her tail to thump the ground happily in thanks, although it was a lazy thumping from tiredness it was a steady beat in the busy street.
"Not my pups"
Of course thats what her brain formed, what her jaws and vocal cords form could only be different and deeper than her human voice. Hopefully the troll could understnad the ever so slight jibberish coming from the werewolf.

(Personally I would call it cute, though after reading her bio, this is kinda worrisome. lol) -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Rum hated to see how the little puppies feared him, though in all honesty there wasn't much he could do about that. He also knew that they had a good reason to fear him, most trolls had no problem with eating a stray dog or two that came their way. He watched the odd little family, seeing the wolf taking care of the pups with a few tender licks or just being there for them to hide under and draw comfort from. This made the troll feel a bit better, he couldn't think of a more heartwarming sight then a mother comforting her children, no matter what races they happened to be.
However this pleasant mood was broken up by the wolf making a sort of growling gibberish that had Rum staring blankly at her. he had no idea what she said, the troll blinked away his dull confusion before taking a haphazard guess. By her wagging tail Rum could see that she was happy, so he took a gamble and assumed that she was thanking him. The troll smiled again, his dark green lips pulling back into a friendly grin, just happy he could help some one down on their luck.
"Yous welcomes wuff ladie. If yous need more food for pups or whatevvers, jus come to Rum agains."
Of course Rum had no idea how long he would be forced to stay in the town or even on this island, but that wouldn't stop him helping out wherever and whoever he could. Perhaps the troll might even donate his spare coins to the little family after he had enough to buy safe passage on a ship. They did seem like they needed it, after all those pups were quite a few mouths to feed and would only to become a larger drain on the mother with time. Rum wished he could do more for them, but he was very limited in what he could offer, he had no money to buy them a nice warm place to sleep, but maybe some hot food and a bit of kindness would be enough. At least the troll hoped so, seeing families like this prowling the streets always broke his heart. What hurt worse was very few would even accept his help, either thinking a troll was too stupid to understand or just too dangerous.
"Eats and rest, I's watch yous and deh pups."
Once more the troll's deep calming voice broke through the sounds of the city around them as he offered the mother wolf and her pups protection until they wished to move onwards. It was the least Rum could do for them, with their bellies full and their mother no longer so tired, he hoped that the little family would be given a good chance at surviving in these cold times.

The troll seemed to be fasinated with Shas and the pups. His smile almost made Shas glad she was the kinda one of the pair... well she was the only one now. Her sister had died trying to kill Shas. Ironic really. Shaking her head slightly Shas huffed removing the memory of her sister from her mind. Only a year ago they had been here.
A happy bark escaped the jaws of Shas and she lifted her upper half of her body in order to nuzzle the trolls hand in thanks. A quiet yip escaped her as one of the pups bit her tail that was still thumping the ground. Smiling Shas yawned and rumaged within her bag again, taking yet another purse from the bag Shas put one paw on the second bag and lifted the first in her jaws.
Pups snuggled against her belly and within the thick fur, that formed a mane of sorts, around her neck. Placing the purse on the table Shas lifted the paw of the other one opening it slightly to reveal the money inside. She was determined to pay the troll for the food that she ate a little more of.
"Take...It"
This time her words were thought out and said slowly, forming each syllible to the best of her capibility. Hopefully her words would be just a little clearer than before and understandable. Yawning again she lowered her head to her paws curling her body around the pups alittle more.

Rum loved watching the little pups, after they had forgotten about the big, 'bad' troll, they seemed quite happy to play in their mother's fur. He couldn't help but make a low croak like chuckle as one of the pups was so bold as to bite the she-wolf's tail. This was by far one of the most heart warming things the troll had seen in his two hundred years of life and not an event he would forget all too soon. In fact for Rum, the harshness of the city around them just seemed to bleed away, leaving just him, the mother and her pups.
But this little day-dream was ripped right out from under the troll's heavy feet by a rather strange sound. Furrowing his brow Rum began to use all of his limited mental abilities to focus on the mother wolf who seemed to be straining to say something. Perhaps this time the troll might be able to catch a word through the strange chattering nonsense. But to Rum's surprise her words were rather articulate, though long and drawn out like a young human working on it's first words, it was at least to the point that Rum could understand it.
When she was finished the female held up the purse once more, causing a pained expression to cross Rum's face before the troll shook his head slowly.
"I's said this befor, I's no take monies frum mudder wuffs. You's needs it more den I's."
With that statement the troll crossed his arms, though he still looked a tad hurt that the werewolf felt like she needed to pay him for his kindness. In Rum's mind that was not how things worked, good deeds were supposed to be selfless or they lost all meaning. As much as it pained the troll to be offered money, he knew that he wouldn't be able to live with himself if he broke down and took it from the poor little she-wolf and her pups.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (Tis fine, short posts can be just as fun as longer ones. Also, your Shas better be careful or else she'll be bringing home a lot more then just a few little strays. heheh)

The chuckle made Shas smile even though her tail had just been biten. A heart warming rumble emited from her chest, it made the puppies yip and snuggle against her body even more. Shas left a comforting growl escape her and relaxed in the knowledge that she was safe here.
The troll shook his head and Shas sighed, the purse was on the table and he hadn't touched it. Guiding the pups back into the bag Shas pulled out a coat and put it roughly on her back.
Standing up she left the bag by the troll and took a few steps to put her out of direct sight of the troll. Bone snapped and her body twisted reforming itself. Muffled screams of pain echoed from her. The puppies whined looking for 'mum' and Shas pulled the long leather coat around her, covering her body.
Stepping back out Shas hid half of her face behind her long hair, sighing she walked up to the troll and emptied the purse onto the table and knelt on the floor letting the puppies out of the bag.
Smiling she picked each and everyone up, lifting them to her face and giggled as each one either sniffed her or licked her. Letting the puppies down she smiled and looked to the troll.
"Take the money or we can travel together, either way i will repay you for your kindness."
Shas smiled and waited for a reply, her eyes remained the same in all of her forms so there should be no doubt of her identity for the troll.
"My name is Shas Myr, and i'm pretty much just your average teenage werewolf."

Rum hated to have to pass up coin like this, but he knew that he could survive a lot better on his own then a mother with pups to worry over. But before the troll could think too heavily on the subject, Rum was distracted by the werewolf stood up and began to awkwardly pull the coat over her back. The logic behind this action seemed to pass right by the troll who looked more then a little confused as he watched the canine. However, it became clear when her body started to morph, twisting out of the form of a wolf and into that of a human. Rum flinched as he watched, while the sight was almost hypnotic, the sharp ears of a troll could hear her bones snap and grind.
It took Rum a moment to really adjust to the woman's new shape, finding it hard to think of her as the happy wolf she was just seconds ago. Based on what Rum understood of humans, he could guess that the woman was quite pretty, though he thought she looked better as a fluffy wolf.
The troll then blinked in shock, staring at the woman as she spoke to him, not acting anywhere near the desperate mother that he had thought she was at the beginning. On top of that she was giving him an offer a choice that in a way wasn't a choice at all, Rum was not going to take her money.
"I's Rum Saaawmpwater... Me gonna have to go wit you, cause I no take dat money."
The troll drew out his last name just a little so the woman would be able to fully understand it. In any case his point was clear, he wasn't going to take anything from the woman, so according to her odd logic he had to go with her. Staying seated the troll extended his arm out with his ham sized hand open, inviting her to partake in a human think called a 'hand-shake'.
"Is nice to meets you Shaz Mers."

Shas knew the troll was confused by her actions as a wolf, but she needed to converse easily with him. She had eaten in order to change forms but she was now shivering and pulled the only clothing she was wearing tighter.
She had shocked him with her words and it made her smile. So she had another travel buddy besides the puppies. Shas liked making friends and nodded in respect as the troll told her his name. Rum was a nice name, she guessed it was short for something like Rumble.
His hand was offered and Shas lifted hers, it was tiny compared to his hand, but she knew she could almost match him for strength, but trolls were the strongest race. No questions asked.
"Nice to meet you too Rum."
Looking down at herself Shas smiled and looked back to Rum, her cheeks only slightly red. Glad she had chosen her leather coat and not one of the cloaks, doing the front of it up, trying not to reveal much of her body as she done so, she hummed quietly.
"Sorry, i should have grabbed something else."
Sighing she petted one of the puppies and laughed as the others yipped and tried to get her attention. Each pup got her attention and Shas was almost buzzing with joy that they were weaned.
Looking back to Rum the young werewolf smiled and looked around the market, not once did their little group draw attention, even when she changed forms. Maybe it was time for Rum to get some money?
"Rum would you like some help getting customers?"

In spite of the size of the troll's hand and the strength packed behind each and every fiber of the brute's flesh, his touch was gentle and shockingly soft. Rum gave her much smaller hand a little shake before letting it go and returning to his comfortable sitting position behind the heavy table. He was quite happy to meet the young werewolf, even if the circumstances could have been a lot better. Happily, he watched Shas in her human body, interacting with the pups who seemed happy to hop around and play.
He was distracted from the pups yet again by the woman saying something, something he didn't understand. She spoke of grabbing something, which didn't make much sense to Rum as Shas didn't look much like a thief or anything. Rum would have to ask the woman about it when he had a better idea of who she was, beyond a kindly mother with some very charming kids.
Rum then noticed something, most humans had a ton of clothes on and he remembered that even in her wolf form that had fur, Shas had been a little cold. The troll then reached down to pick up his pack which was resting beside his stump-chair and began to root through it, looking for something that the human could use to keep herself warm. As he was looking around he heard the woman speak he him once again, causing Rum to pause just as he pulled out a pair of large pants with a belt. The troll thought about her odd offer for a moment before giving Shas a small shrug.
"I's need monies to buy ship, get offs this island."
He explained with a small sigh before going on.
"Now I's goes with you, no need monies for ship..."

Rum's touch was gentle and Shas was glad, knowing that Rum could crush her skull if he so wished. He returned to his place and Shas turned sharply to face the crowd a couple were starring at her and puppies, gathering them closer to her Shas allowed her coat to fall open a little more.
Her hand shot forward to grab her bag, and from it she pulled a cloak that was large enough to fit Rum. It was swung over her shoulders and clasped shut within seconds, she stood leaving the coat on the floor surrounding the puppies.
Stepping into the dress still unseen beneath the cloak she smiled and spun the the human pair of males starring at her. Tilting her head to the side slightly she laughed knowing that her teeth had sharpened slightly.
"Something to say boys?"
Seeing them shakes their heads and walk off looking ashamed and embaressed Shas sighed and knelt down counting the puppies. How she hated human males, always with the staring at her, even more so right after a change.
She turned back to see the trousers and belt and shook her head smiling. His small shrug made the smile even greater. She heard his words and laughed softly.
"No you don't need the money 'cause i have it, do you want to head of out, i know a village that could do with the food on the way."

Rum just got the pants straight when he noticed that Shas already had some clothes to cover herself with. However it seemed that her actions had caused a bit of a show for a pair of male humans that were watching the mother wolf. The troll didn't like those leering eyes and was about to say something when Shas barked out a harsh laugh and scared the two off. Then Rum began to pack the pants back into his bag, not putting much thought into it as he just stuffed them in with a few shoves
Then the troll slowly stood up, stretching out his back after so long sitting down on the stump. Rum was going to have to get used to standing once more, or else his movements would be stiff for a while.
Then the troll stepped back, picking up the stump and placing it on the table behind the remaining dishes he had set out. Rum then raised his hand up, bringing it down on the stump with enough force to snap it in twain. Rum then set one half on each side of the table, taking a moment to scratch the word 'free' on one and 'Fuud' on the other. With the troll's sign complete Rum shot the werewolf a warm smile, everything here was settled.
Slowly Rum moved around his table, finding himself standing beside the much smaller being. Rum slowly rose a hand up to the side of his face to rub his green chin, as if thinking for a moment. Of course he was a troll after all so it was most likely not something all that important.
"Rum readies to go."

Shas noticed how rum packed the trousers back and smiled. He stood up and Shas glanced at the two males who had stopped to look back, she saw their eyes open in shock, they hadn't seen the troll, or realised she was with him.
Shas watched rum place the log on the table and wasn't suprised at how easily the log split in half. Ushering the puppies into the bag Shas smiled and stood the bag clasped in her arms, the top open just enough for the puppies to poke their heads out if they wished.
That warm smile was returned and Shas shifted the bag slightly in order to hold it with one arm, leaving her other hand free. Looking up at the large male, the tiny werewolf giggled as he rubbed his chin.
"Then good sir where is our destination?"
Shas had no real plan on where she wished to go, she lived on Red Island. The twin that killed her sister, she held a high rank within her pack but was nothing more than a rich commoner in society.

Now that he was standing up, the troll noticed that his movings had scared one of two of the street goers, which caused the soft-hearted troll to frown. This distracted him from the fact that he had no idea where he was going, even if he did get a ship Rum would have just picked at random and not really cared where it took him. The troll was always on the road, only stopping when he no longer had the money to continue.
Blinking in confusing the tall male turned his sky blue eyes to Shas once more, just now realizing that she had spoken to him, even asking a question. This set Rum back a bit, not very many people ever asked him a question, as trolls did not have the best track record with information.
Slowly he leaned down a bit to get a better look at the mother-wolf as she stood beside him in her human body. He had no idea what they were going to do or where to go, Rum wasn't much of a leader.
"I donnos..."
The troll looked a little confused as he began to scratch his chin once more, trying to get his sluggish brain to work for him.
"I's a followers...yous teh leader-ladies."
Rum felt a bit sheepish as he spoke, lowing his hand again and sighed in a depressed manner. The troll was never good at doing his own thing, it was why he just followed others or when he had no one to think for him, just sat around and tried to buy his way to the next island over.
